Hello Darlings!!!

It’s that time again where Writers join the thousands of other writers to complete 50,000 words in a month. NANoWriMo  is a great way to finish/start that novel you have been dreaming of writing.

If you have a novel of your own you are starting, let me know in the comments below. I’m looking for buddies, and I would love to see what other’s are writing this year…

Below is the Synopsis and an exert from the novel I am currently writing.

It’s an Erotic Suspense novel Called Criminal Love.

Synopsis

Gracie

I shouldn’t want the big man, with the homicidal smile. He was clearly dangerous or he wouldn’t be in prison, but everytime his eyes raked down my body from across the room I could help but shudder.. in pleasure. Besides he’s inside, not like much could happen.

That is until he’s released.

Luke

Gracie was the one thing I looked forward to the entire year I was inside. Her body turned me on so much. Pity I have to kill her brother, but first, I need a little leverage before I get my revenge.

I wonder if Gracie has a Kidnapping fantasy?

Excerpt

“Alright, Love. Fancy meeting you here?”

Oh.My.God

What is HE doing here?

“Did I scare you?” The slow grin forming on his face was wolf-like. Fear crept up my body, I was already out of breath from the treadmill.

I looked towards the exit of the private room, then back at him, in time to see the smile fall, and a scowl form in its place.

“We need to have a little chat” his rough voice sneered at me.

“We do?” I licked my lips nervously, his gazed zeroed in on my mouth. “what about?”

“Your brother” he looked away from me and around at the room. “He’s been a bit of a problem”

I gasped. This giant of a man terrified me. He looked bored, and his voice held a threat. He stopped looking around the room and brought his eyes to mine. He was so intense, he just stared.

I cleared my throat. “W-what has he done?” He spun on his heel, giving me his back, and started to inspect the machinery. I looked to the exit again, and taking my chance, ran towards it.

I got no more than a few steps when a massive arm, seized my waist, and lifted me off my feet, and planting me face first into his broad chest.

“Don’t fucking touch her!”  The suit wearing, prisoner from Broadmore, roared. The arm holding me let go and I slipped and fell on my butt.

What is Creative Writing?

a72098ec-be8b-443d-a087-e206c705f258Humans have been telling stories for hundreds of thousands of years. Cave paintings show that people have always had the desire to entertain and inform each other through different mediums.

There was an advert a few years back for Sky TV that particularly moved me. Dustin Hoffman was standing on a rooftop, above a vibrant but misty city. He said;

Stories; we all spend our lives telling them, about this, about that, about people. But some, some stories are so good we wish they’d never end. They’re so gripping that we’ll go without sleep just to see a little bit more. Some stories bring us laughter and sometimes they bring us tears but isn’t that what a great story does? Makes you feel? Stories that are so powerful, they really are with us forever.”

I often reflect on this when I struggle or doubt myself. I have a story inside of me, and I want to move people enough that they have to lose sleep because they wanna hear the next part of my story.

What is Creative Writing?

It is often said that creative writing is the art of creating a story using characters, plot, and dialogue. It is that, but more broadly its a story told that is made up.

It doesn’t have to be a novel or short story. It can be a poem, a play, screenplay or even a song.

There are a lot of different elements to creative writing. Such as which narrator to use, character identity, conflict, dialogue, rhyme, rhythm, theme, and plot. I often get overwhelmed by the terminology, which causes stage fright. That perhaps if I don’t know all this stuff, then maybe I shouldn’t be writing at all, and I wonder if anyone else has those doubting thoughts.

National Novel Writing Month starts November 1st, and over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting some things that I find helpful when starting NaNoWriMo, and researching some of the barmy terms for things you probably already do.

This year is going to be awesome.

Harry Potter, Open University, Tarot & Halloween

downloadOpen University

Today signifies the first day of my Creative Writing Open University BA course. I am really nervous. It’s been about 14 years since I last was at school and wrote essays.

Don’t get me wrong I am also really excited. I’ve been wanting to make a big change, and focus on something studious for years, but I always figured I needed thousands of pounds to pay for tutorage/courses.

However, the OU was amazing. In the UK you can get a student loan to pay for distance learning, and only have to pay back when you have a job that is within a certain pay bracket. It has been really easy and pain-free, with every help available. I’ll be updating my experience as I go.

Harry Potter

0.41_Ravenclaw_Crest_TransparentI have been a HUGE Harry Potter fan for years, but Recently, I re-signed up for Pottermore, having previously done it so long ago. not unsurprisingly I was sorted into Ravenclaw. My love of book, learning, and reading showing through. Any other Ravenclaw’s reading this?? *waves

If you haven’t signed up for Pottermore, or not sure what it is, head over to http://www.pottermore.com. It’s an interactive website for Harry Potter fans. You can get sorted, get a Patronus (mines a field Mouse) get chose by a wand, and more recently get you sorted into Ilvermorny House – the North American version of Hogwarts.

Creative Writing

Literary Witchery is a blog that promotes creative writing.  I have been ‘Betwitched by Literature’ for a long as I can remember. Most Saturday afternoons during my childhood were spent in my local library. As I grew up I realized I wanted to write my own novel. Inspired by authors such as JK Rowling, Stephen King, Nalini Singh, Alexa Riley, Sherrilyn Kenyon, I firmly believe that it is possible to write a book; I just want to have fun whilst writing it.

Tarot

I love Tarot and Oracle Cards. The rich imagery, the themes, the stories they tell… and the stories they can create. Each card can create a spark of inspiration for a character, a location, a plot hole, or even a sense or description.

Halloween

Its the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Halloween fills my spooky heart with so much joy. Apples and cinnamon flavored everything, please. I have the week off work and I plan to read and Watch Harry Potter, and experiment with Butterbeer.. more to come

Reasons to chose a Pseudonym and why I have one…

Pseudonym

Noun

a fictitious name used by an author to conceal his or her identity; pen name

Are you thinking about becoming an Author?? I am. It’s one of the most difficult things I want to do, but I am going to make it as fun as possible… Writing is about creating an entire world from your imagination, and for me that starts with a Pseudonym.

I have one.. and I’m going to tell you some reasons why I think you should get one too.

Above: Sherrilyn Kenyon AKA Kinley MacGregor

Reasons to use one..

  1. Multi-Genre If you plan to write more than one Genre. Maybe, you want to write ‘Chick Lit’ but may also want to write something historical. If either one comes first, that name will be ‘known’ and will be synonymous with that genre. Depending on the audience, this may be frowned upon.
  2. Privacy You may have a full-time job, be a pillar of the community or simply don’t want people to find out you write for whatever reasons, like family squabbles for one.
  3. Uniqueness Let’s face it, if your real name is Jane Austen or John Grisham or Anne Rice, your books may be confused with other authors work. This can cause angry readers, who leave angry reviews.
  4. Brand Spooky Book, Spooky name. ‘nuf said.
  5. You may sell more books, unfortunately, the publishing world is still very gender biased. Crime novels are usually brought because they are written by men, and arguably Romance novels are preferred to be written by women. There are of course exceptions, but these are rare.

Why I am using a Pseudonym

I thought the name was cooler than my own… yup, I am that shallow. I also think to authors in the genre, and what better way to stick out in the Genre of Paranormal Romance, than to have a unique name.

So there are definitely some benefits to having a pen name when you write.

Will you take a Pen name.. let me know in the comments.
